The mouth of the Glanzenberg heritage tunnel is located near the monument to the fallen in the 2nd St.
war on Kammerhofská Street. The oldest written mention of the tunnel is from
1560. It had a significant role in the beginnings of mining gold and silver ores on the vein
The hospital under the Glanzenberg hill. In later times, when its drainage
the function was taken over by the drainage tunnels located below, it was used for transport,
ventilation and maintenance of technicians. The fame and importance of Banská Štiavnica was born from
mineral wealth of ores of precious and non-ferrous metals, which were mined more here
like a thousand years.
A number of European and world championships from various fields of human
activities are linked to our city. Banská Štiavnica was a free man’s house
city. In the period of the first written reports about the tunnel (1560), the city had today’s
character and there was a building that still forms the center of the city today. Out of fear
for the stability of the buildings and the road, the tunnel was kept in good condition for centuries
technical condition and that is why it has been preserved until today.
