The synagogue is the most monumental classicist building in the city and
ranks among the largest in Slovakia. The Jewish religious community built it
in 1842-1846 on the site of the first wooden synagogue. The current appearance of her in the year
1906 brought a reconstruction according to the project of a well-known Budapest builder
Leopold Baumhorn, who was one of the most famous construction experts,
respectively reconstruction of older synagogues. He managed the original object to the maximum
to preserve, while modernizing and expanding its capacity, the structure of the emporium,
while harmoniously connecting the classicist exterior with the art nouveau interior.
